Optimizing the Blurting Method

We've heard about it but how do we use it?
The blurting method, at its simplest, is reading a section of text or notes, then closing them and writing down as much of the information as you can remember. This makes your brain work harder to retain the information, making it really hammer the info down into your long-term memory.
For example, you're studying for a periodic test and decide to use this method.
First, you will have to categorize and organise your notes. Especially in cases of History tests where learning data randomly will be ineffective as history has a specific timeline of events.
Once you have organised your notes and segregated them topic wise, begin by reading the topic carefully. Do not be in a rush to close the book and write down the information, espcially when you first begin.
Once you have finished reading it, close the book and set a timer(depending on how long the topic is) and write down everything you remember.
Slowly but steadily, increase your speed. Decrease your reading time and write down concepts for a longer period of time in order to retain information well.
Remember, this is not the only study method to help you succeed academically. There are many other ways to learn concepts effectively, some may work for you while others won't.
P.S. Work smart not hard, if you are good at retaining information quickly, try out methods that help you learn more concepts in a short period of time.
